The Water Parliament of the Popular Campaign to Support the Kind Zagros is organizing a specialized workshop titled "The Political Economy of Water in Iran". This educational course, instructed by Shahram Etefagh, a researcher in environmental political economy, is designed to examine the water crisis not merely as a natural issue, but as a complex political, economic, social, and legal challenge.
The comprehensive syllabus of this workshop comprises four main themes: examining the relationship between politics and water (looking at the theories of Marx, Wittfogel, and the quality of governance systems), analyzing the economic dimensions of development and agriculture, exploring the evolution of the institution of land and water ownership from antiquity to the present, and finally, reviewing the laws and rights related to water resources in Iran. This multidimensional approach helps participants gain a deeper understanding of resource distribution patterns and macroeconomic policymaking.
Attending this workshop is recommended for researchers, environmental activists, economics and political science students, and anyone interested in sustainable development. The event is held weekly, simultaneously in both in-person and virtual formats, and interested individuals can register to participate.
