The workshop "Liberation from the Illusion of Freedom: The Desire to Escape in Kafka's World" is a one-day session led by Saleh Najafi that reads Kafka's world through the lenses of freedom, power, law, desire, and the possibility of escape. The central question is whether freedom merely means choosing among options already laid out before us, or whether we can transcend this framework and create other possibilities for living.

In this workshop, we will speak of Kafka's laughter, Kafka's cages, and Kafka's bridges, discussing the difference between "seeking refuge from the determinism of the age" and "creating lines of flight." The issue of the illusion of free will and its relation to a world where individuals are trapped in the cycle of power and resistance, and the circuit of law and desire, will also be examined.

This session is suitable for those interested in Kafka, literature, philosophy, and political thought, as well as anyone who wishes to examine the problem of freedom beyond the common meaning of the "right to choose." The workshop will be held on Saturday, August 22, at 5:00 PM, both in-person and online, and participation is free; prior registration is required.
