To mark the 90th anniversary of the birth of Mohammad Mojtahed Shabestari, an online gathering will be held under the title “The Courage to Question and Think.” The event honours a thinker who has placed critical inquiry, the reconsideration of religious tradition, and an open engagement with intellectual and theological questions at the centre of his work.
The gathering will feature Abdolkarim Soroush, Ali Mirsepassi, Mostafa Malekian, Nireh Touhidi, Katayoun Amirpour, Mehdi Jami, Hossein Kamali, Reza Beheshti-Moez, Morteza Karimi-Nia, Hossein Kaji, Soroush Dabbagh, Amir Maziyar, Javad Heydari, Yaser Mirdamadi, and Mohammadreza Karvan. They will reflect on Shabestari’s thought and intellectual significance from a range of perspectives.
The event offers an opportunity to become more familiar with Shabestari’s intellectual concerns, consider the importance of courage in questioning, and discuss the relationship between religion, rationality, and freedom of thought. It is open to those interested in philosophy, theology, religious intellectualism, and contemporary Iranian thought.
Date and time: Saturday, 16 Aban 1405 (November 7, 2026), at 8:30 PM Tehran time.
