The forty-eighth session in the series of Bukhara Monday Evenings is dedicated to introducing and reviewing the newly published book Larin Coins: From the Persian Gulf to the Indian Ocean. Published by Negarestan-e Andisheh Publications, this book is a collection of articles on the coins of the Persian Gulf and Indian Ocean littorals, compiled through the selection and translation of Fatemeh Qamlaqi.
At this session, Mohammadesmaeil Esmaeili Jelodar, Saeed Amirhajloo, Mehran Rezaei, Fatemeh Qamlaqi, and Ali Dehbashi will speak on topics related to the history of coinage, maritime trade, and the economic role of Larin coins.
The Larin coin, with its distinctive appearance and high silver purity, was one of the key instruments of commercial exchange along the maritime routes between the Persian Gulf, the Sea of Oman, and the ports of India. Studying these coins enables a better understanding of Iran's role in maritime trade networks, particularly during the Safavid period and beyond, and facilitates the study of the region's economic history.
This session offers enthusiasts of Iranian history, archaeology, numismatics, maritime trade, and civilizational studies an opportunity to become acquainted with one of the important sources for the economic history and intercultural connections between Iran and the Indian Ocean.
