Life and Thought
Ali Dehbashi is a journalist, literary scholar, and editor-in-chief of the prestigious magazine Bukhara. Through organizing hundreds of “Bukhara Nights” and compiling valuable memorial volumes and monographs, he is considered one of the most influential figures in preserving and promoting Iran's cultural and literary heritage and contemporary history.
Ali Dehbashi (born 1958 in Tehran) is a journalist, writer, cultural researcher, and editor-in-chief of the literary and cultural magazine Bukhara. He began his press career in his youth, and through collaboration with various publications and managing the magazine Kelk, he provided a dynamic platform for literary research and Iranian studies.
The masterpiece of his professional life is the founding and editorship of Bukhara magazine, as well as organizing the series of gatherings known as “Bukhara Nights.” These events, dedicated to celebrating prominent literary, artistic, historical, and philosophical figures of Iran and the world, have played an unparalleled role in recording oral history and preserving Iran's collective cultural memory. He has also published dozens of books in the form of memorial volumes, notes, and collections of articles about the great figures of contemporary culture and literature.
Dehbashi's tireless efforts have been largely focused on connecting different generations of intellectuals, introducing Iran's luminaries to the world, and developing transnational cultural exchanges. His services in the field of culture and Iranian studies have brought him numerous domestic and international awards and recognitions.
