“Deep Reflection and the Good Life with the Sages of the World” is a series of sessions taught by Ardeshir Mansouri that seeks to cultivate a more considered understanding of existence and life through engagement with diverse philosophical and wisdom traditions. The series ranges from the wisdom traditions of East Asia and ancient Iranian thought to Greek philosophy and the works of thinkers and poets such as Omar Khayyam, Rumi, Hafez, Montaigne, Hume, and Kant.
At the heart of the series is a question: how have the sages of the world responded to the fundamental conditions of human life? How did they understand and endure illness, poverty, and old age? How have different traditions approached hope and despair, being and nothingness, striving and trust, attachment and detachment, solitude and togetherness, and the relationship between individual flourishing and the social and political sphere? The series also considers the role of beliefs such as rebirth in well-being and the place of love and friendship in a good life.
The fourth and fifth sessions are devoted to Zoroastrianism, examining its teachings within the series’ broader inquiry into deep reflection and living well. The event is intended for those interested in philosophy, wisdom traditions, religions, and intellectual history, as well as anyone seeking to draw on different cultural traditions for deeper reflection on how to live.
The event is offered both in person and online, making it accessible to participants in Tehran as well as those joining remotely.
