"Deep Reflection and Well-Being with the Sages of the World" is a series of sessions taught by Ardeshir Mansouri that, by referring to the teachings of sages and thinkers from various cultures, seeks a more considered view of existence and insights for living better. The third session in this series is dedicated to the Buddha and his teachings.
The focus of this session is on questions that have a direct connection to everyday human experience: Is hope always desirable and despair always undesirable? How can one face illness, poverty, old age, and death? What is the relationship of attachment and detachment to suffering and happiness? And how can a person's beliefs about death and the continuation of life affect their way of living?
In a broader horizon, this series examines the teachings of Eastern and Western sages on topics such as hope and despair, being and non-being, effort and trust in God, solitude and togetherness, self-regard and other-regard, and the relationship between individual happiness and the social and political sphere.
This session is suitable for those interested in the philosophy of life, Eastern wisdom, and the question of well-being, who wish to reflect on the relationship of the Buddha's teachings to the questions and difficulties of contemporary life, rather than a purely historical encounter with his thought. The program is held in person at the Khane Ashena Institute in Tehran and simultaneously online.
