The Lectures on the History of Contemporary Western Philosophy examine a period in the history of philosophy that begins in the late nineteenth century and continues until the end of the twentieth century. In this course, Mohammad Mehdi Ardebili, for undergraduate philosophy students at Allameh Tabataba'i University in the fall and winter of 2019, expounded the views of 8 philosophers as influential representatives of the philosophical attitudes of this era in the history of philosophy: Nietzsche, Wittgenstein and Analytic Philosophy, Husserl and Phenomenology, Heidegger and Existentialism, Adorno and the Frankfurt School, Levinas, Bataille, and Derrida. The teaching method in this course was based on a dialogue between reading excerpts from the primary texts of these philosophers and explaining the key concepts of their thought. Guest instructors also accompanied the class in some sessions to provide a more specialized presentation of the material and introduce a different interpretation for understanding the philosopher under discussion, each teaching one separate session of the course: Hossein Shaghaghi (Wittgenstein and Analytic Philosophy), Farzad Jaber al-Ansar (Husserl's Phenomenology), Masoud Hosseini (Heidegger), and Aydin Keikhaei (Adorno).
