A Study File on Hermann Hesse

Hermann Hesse, born 2 July 1877 and died 9 August 1962, is one of the most widely read European authors of the twentieth century. He won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1946, and although he was born and raised in Germany, he adopted Swiss citizenship at the age of 46.

This file includes a short report on six books—one about him and his works, and five of his own writings—as well as useful links related to each book. The aim of this report is to offer a general overview of Hermann Hesse’s concerns, so that if the reader shares a common feeling with these concerns and deems it appropriate, they may turn to the original book.
