“Why Governments Fail to Learn” offers an opportunity to revisit four decades of Masoud Nili’s experience with economics and policymaking in Iran, raising a fundamental question: Why do governments struggle to learn from experience despite recurring problems and the consequences of past policies?

At the book launch, Mohammad Tabibian, Bahman Ahmadi Amouee, Masoud Nili, and Mohsen Azmoudeh will discuss the experience of economic policymaking, the relationship between expert knowledge and decision-making, and the problem of government learning in Iran.

For those interested in Iran’s economy, public policy, governance, and contemporary economic history, the session offers an opportunity to engage more closely with Masoud Nili’s experience and views and to consider the mechanisms of decision-making and institutional learning in Iran. Organized by Nashr-e Ney, the event will be held in person in Tehran.
