Arezoo Islami is an Iranian philosopher and a faculty member in the Department of Philosophy at San Francisco State University in the United States. She earned her PhD in Philosophy from Stanford University and works in the philosophy of science and the philosophy of mathematics.
Her research focuses on the philosophy of mathematics, the philosophy of physics, logic, and the philosophical foundations of scientific knowledge. Her doctoral dissertation examined the applicability of mathematics in modern physics, addressing the question of why and how mathematical structures can play such an effective role in describing the physical world.
In her teaching and research, Islami attends to the connections among philosophy, mathematics, physics, and lived experience. Some of her more recent work also explores the relationship between science and mathematics education and the experiences of Iranian immigrants, as well as the role of Iranian intellectual and educational traditions in North American universities.
