Life and Thought
Hilary Whitehall Putnam (1926–2016) was an American philosopher and one of the most influential figures in analytic philosophy in the second half of the twentieth century. He produced foundational works in the philosophy of mind, philosophy of language, philosophy of science, logic, and mathematics, and is renowned for his intellectual shifts and his defense of realism. The concepts of semantic externalism and the "Twin Earth" thought experiment are among his most important legacies.
