A Question for Soroush Dabbagh on Akbar Ganji's Recent Remarks about the 'Soroush Cult'

Question: What is your opinion on Akbar Ganji's series of articles criticizing Dr. Soroush's theory of "Prophetic Dreams," especially his latest article entitled "Soroush's Claim to Prophethood and the Promise of the Globalization of the Soroush Cult"?

Answer: To be honest, I had not and do not intend to speak about his series of articles on this subject; for they lack the minimal standards of scholarly and fair research and investigation, and like most of his works in this domain, they are of the nature of bulletin-writing, dossier-fabrication, and mixing apples and oranges. Moreover, as evidenced by his intellectual background and the nature of his works, he has no entry into theological-philosophical issues and lacks the necessary competence and qualification in these fields, and his writings, apart from the numerous quotations he brings from Tom, Dick, and Harry, are worthless and unusable. However, since his recent writing contains an obvious slander and accusation, attributing the claim of prophethood and cult-making to Abdolkarim Soroush, I write these few lines. If we put together all of Ganji's quotations from Soroush that he has included in his article, they do not in the slightest indicate a claim to prophethood and cult-making by Soroush. Therefore, either Ganji is unfamiliar with the category of logical inference, and the conclusions he has drawn from the premises (the quotations)—conclusions that more closely resemble jokes and jest—are the product of a confused and muddled mind; or he has written this article, and by extension this series of articles, out of enmity and animosity and with the intent of dossier-fabrication. Whichever it may be, his baseless claims and unjustified accusations carry no weight on the scales of research and are not worth addressing any further. Regrettably, the only result of the publication of these articles by Ganji (who once worked in bulletin-writing in the Revolutionary Guards) is to put blades in the hands of drunken zealots and to proclaim: O people, why do you sit idle? So-and-so (Abdolkarim Soroush) has departed from the circle of the Islamic faith; take up the cudgel of apostasy and excommunication and give him his due on the palm of his hand!!
