What is the use of speaking of God or to God? In the series of sessions on Metaphorical Theology, we discover that anyone who recognizes their own way of speaking with God will come to know themselves better. But how is such a thing possible?

Metaphors, which perform the work of dreams in language, will help us to delve into our inner states through god-talk and gain news of them. Metaphors, as tools in the psychology of language, can make our hidden and concealed existence more manifest and apparent.

Most of the metaphors the prophets have used about God are the product of the culture and upbringing in which they grew and which permeated their souls. We too, like the prophets, construct our God and our world with our own metaphors:

You and Tuba and we and the stature of the beloved Each person's thought is to the measure of their aspiration
