Webinar
Moral Pills; Webinar by Hossein Dabbagh
In this webinar, Hossein Dabbagh explores the idea of 'moral pills' and the relationship between ethics, the brain, and the possibility of improving human behavior. The main discussion revolves around the philosophical questions we face if moral behavior can be enhanced through biological or pharmaceutical interventions.
About this video
'Moral Pills' is the title of a webinar by Hossein Dabbagh, a researcher in moral philosophy, which addresses one of the new discussions at the intersection of moral philosophy, cognitive science, and biotechnology: can becoming more moral be enhanced through biological, pharmaceutical, or cognitive interventions?
This discussion begins with important questions: if a drug could increase empathy, anger control, or altruistic behavior, is its use morally permissible? Does such an intervention create moral virtue or merely change outward behavior? And what is its relationship with freedom, responsibility, free will, and moral education?
The importance of this webinar lies in raising an issue that is both philosophical and relevant to the future of science and society. Advances in neuroscience and cognition have generated new questions about the possibility of human 'moral enhancement'; questions that cannot be clarified without philosophical analysis.
This program is a joint effort by the Center for Cognition and the Sedanet cultural website, and is suitable for those interested in moral philosophy, cognitive science, moral psychology, and new discussions in applied ethics.
