The Second Summer School of the Science Studies Group at the Iranian Institute of Philosophy, Entitled “Relativism and Its Critics: Science, Philosophy, and Ethics”

The summer school “Relativism and Its Critics: Science, Philosophy, and Ethics” was the second summer school organized by the Science Studies Group at the Iranian Institute of Philosophy. Held in September 2019, this school comprised fifteen lectures delivered by fifteen different scholars—fourteen domestic and one international.

The first lecture, titled “Relativism: History, Definitions, and Types,” was delivered by Amir Ehsan Karbasizadeh. In the second lecture, Ali Hosseinkhani addressed “Conceptual Relativism,” and Meysam Mohammadamini and Hamed Bikaran-Behesht spoke on “Alethic Relativism” in the third and fourth lectures, respectively. Saeed Zibakalam juxtaposed “Relativism” with “Absolutism,” and Aboutorab Yaghmaie discussed the relationship between “Relativism” and “Modeling in Science.” In the seventh and eighth lectures, Mehdi Hatef and Hassan Amiriara scrutinized “Relativism and Scientific Method,” and Mohammadreza Esmkhani spoke on the relation between “Relativism” and “Rationality.” In the tenth lecture, Shahram Shahriari addressed “Relativism and the Strong Programme,” followed by Gholamreza Zakiani, who broached the topic of “Logic and Relativity.” In the twelfth lecture, Amirhossein Khodaparast spoke on “Moral Relativism,” and Amir Maziar and Hossein Sheikhrezaei, in the two subsequent lectures, addressed “Aesthetic Relativism” and “Relativism and Everyday Life,” respectively.
