“Epistemic loss” is a censorship tool that suffocates emotion; when we lack the vocabulary to interpret our experiences, we become incapable of recognizing them. This condition is sometimes natural, and sometimes society deliberately keeps public understanding of concepts low in order to suppress undesirable feelings—because you cannot feel what does not exist.
