Life and Thought
Abdolali Bazargan is an Iranian writer, Quran researcher, and scholar of religion. Through his lectures, writings, and Quranic interpretations, he has sought to present an ethical, linguistic, and contemporary understanding of the Quran and to connect modern audiences with the Quranic text.
Abdolali Bazargan was born in Tehran in 1322 SH. He studied architecture and, alongside his professional career, engaged in Quranic research, religious studies, and writing on intellectual and ethical issues of Islam. Coming from a family known in Iran’s tradition of religious intellectualism, he has emphasized returning to the Quranic text and pursuing a more direct understanding of it.
A major part of his intellectual activity has focused on Quranic commentary, translation, lectures, and interpretation. His lectures on Quranic chapters have been presented for general audiences, and his book “The Order of the Quran” is among his recognized works, focusing on the structure, coherence, and inner order of verses and chapters.
In Bazargan’s Quranic approach, the Quran is a living text for ethical cultivation, spiritual awakening, and reconsidering the relationship between human beings, God, the world, and society. His thought can be understood within the Quran-centered current of Iranian religious intellectualism, which seeks new horizons for understanding faith, ethics, and human responsibility through a more direct engagement with the Quranic text.
