Sheikh Muhammad Hasan al-Najafi (c. 1202–1266 AH), known as "Sahib al-Jawahir," was a jurist of the usuli school and one of the great Shia authorities of Najaf in the thirteenth century AH. He wrote *Jawahir al-Kalam fi Sharh Shara'i al-Islam*, regarded as one of the most important and comprehensive works of Shia reasoned jurisprudence. After the death of Ja'far Kashif al-Ghita and his sons, he became head of the Najaf seminary, and Sheikh Murtada Ansari was among his most distinguished students.
