Siavash Jamadi

Siavash Jamadi was born in February 1952 in Tehran. He completed his elementary and secondary education in Jahrom and Shiraz, receiving a diploma in natural sciences in 1970. He then entered the Faculty of Law at the University of Tehran, earning a bachelor's degree in law in 1974. He later obtained a master's degree in Western philosophy from Allameh Tabataba'i University and a master's degree in English literature from Islamic Azad University. He learned German through self-study.

Jamadi began his literary and philosophical activities with works in the field of cinema and literature. His first book, Cinema and Time (along with the screenplay for Pulp Fiction by Quentin Tarantino), was published in 1998. He then turned to translating and researching Franz Kafka, publishing works such as Letters to Milena and A Journey into the World of Kafka (selected as a Book of the Year).

The most significant part of his work is dedicated to continental philosophy, particularly Martin Heidegger. He has translated Being and Time, What is Metaphysics?, and What is Called Thinking? from German into Persian. His authored book, The Context and Time of Phenomenology (an inquiry into the life and thoughts of Husserl and Heidegger), was published in 2006 and won the 25th Book of the Year Award in philosophy. Jamadi has also translated works by Karl Jaspers, Theodor Adorno, and others, and in his articles and conversations, he emphasizes the importance of critical thought.
