A Series of Specialised Talks on Research and the Creation of Artworks, Organised by the Iranian Artists Forum
The Iranian Artists' Forum is holding a series of talks titled 'Research and the Creation of Artworks' aimed at challenging self-evident concepts in contemporary Iranian art. These interdisciplinary, market-independent discussions focus on the philosophical backgrounds and conceptual understanding of art.
The series of talks at the Iranian Artists Forum, titled The Relationship Between Truth and Art in the Contemporary World, has commenced. By addressing the philosophical backgrounds of contemporary art movements, this series of talks seeks to challenge the "self-evident," "presupposed," and "unquestioned" concepts in contemporary Iranian art. More than engaging with the state of contemporary art in the usual manner—the issue of sales or the crisis of galleries—the upcoming series of talks aims to address concepts that, through hasty translations, have been lost within the hidden layers of the language of contemporary criticism and the conceptual/linguistic understanding of contemporary art. These talks look at subjects such as the historiography of contemporary Iranian art through the issue of local/global art. Or they raise the necessity of addressing a philosophical-conceptual understanding of art for contemporary art therapy. The methods of encountering the text and philosophical understanding from writing to image, or the transformation of the text from writing to image, seek to address the invisible threads between written language, the language of criticism, and moving beyond the writing/image dichotomy. A part of these talks presents a pathology of methods of reading philosophy and insular, fragmented studies that disregard context, and examines the role of this hasty understanding in artistic criticism and creativity. The course of these talks, on a path toward deepening or even creating a rift and crisis in the habitual understanding of art, by convening contemporary artists and thinkers in the form of interdisciplinary dialogues, strives to present the audience with alternative modes of philosophical understanding derived from art and artistic understanding through reflection on philosophy.
