Session Five

The subject of this session is Gadamer's critique of Kant's aesthetics. Gadamer criticizes Kant's subjective approach to beauty and clarifies the relationship of some key concepts of Kant's aesthetics, such as free and dependent beauty, the ideal of beauty, the interest in the beautiful, taste, and genius, with Kant's overall approach.

Session Six

In this session, Gadamer's discussion of the process of the subjectivization of aesthetics is continued, and the expansion of genius-based aesthetics after Kant, the concept of lived experience (Erlebnis) and its application in the fields of historiography and aesthetics, and the status of symbol and allegory as an example representing the dominance of the aesthetic conception in this approach are explained.
