Lectures on the Political Economy of the Environment at the Sharif Industrial Environmental Clubhouse
The 'Political Economy of the Environment' sessions, narrated by Shahram Etefagh, are held at the Sharif Industrial Clubhouse. In contrast to the usual approach, these sessions move beyond cataloguing calamities to analyse the underlying economic and political drivers of environmental phenomena.
Recently, virtual sessions on the "Political Economy of the Environment," narrated by Shahram Etefagh, have been held at the Sharif Industrial Clubhouse, which have been well received by audiences. This room on Clubhouse is a space for dialogue and reflection, established under the auspices of the "Sharif University of Technology Association – SUTA" and through the efforts and insight of Mohammad Reza Heydari and Mohammad Yazdanfar.
In these sessions, unconventional and fresh ideas about the environment are expressed, differing from what we commonly read or hear. Most everyday environmental statements and content are limited to lamenting the state of the environment and often suffice to present a long list of environmental calamities and degradations in the world or the country. An approach that, while containing its positive and awareness-raising aspects, is devoid of any understanding of the "why" of phenomena. However, the "Political Economy of the Environment" goes beyond describing the existing situation and, through an exploration of economic, political, social, and philosophical foundations, analyzes that "why."
Shahram Etefagh has authored numerous books and articles in the field of the "Political Economy of the Environment," and the subject of each session is the study of one or two chapters from his book. Mohammad Reza Heydari works as an environmental researcher at the University of Michigan, and Mohammad Yazdanfar is an environmental activist.
