The Difference Between a Scientific Law and a Theory, Video
A scientific law predicts that a phenomenon will occur, while a theory explains why. These are two distinct functions, and a theory never graduates into a law—a video on the difference between laws and theories.
When you're arguing with a friend about a proven scientific theory, they might respond by saying, "Well, it's just a theory!" Whereas a debate about a proven scientific law rarely ends with the sentence, "Well, it's just a law!" Why is that? What is the difference between a theory and a law, and is one better than the other? Scientific laws and theories have different functions. A scientific law can predict the results of a specific set of initial conditions. For example, a scientific law might be able to estimate the probable hair color of your unborn child or the distance a baseball will travel after being thrown at a certain angle. In contrast, a theory attempts to provide the most logical explanation for why things happen the way they do. A theory might invoke dominant and recessive genes to explain how brown-haired parents can have a red-haired child, or use gravity to better understand the arcing path of a thrown baseball. با سلام و احترام. این نوع برداشت از نظریه و قانون خیلی کلاسیک و پر از اشتباه است و امروزه دیگر بعد از پشرفت های که در فلسفه علم شده و ظهور مکاتبی مثل رعقلگرایی انتقادی و ابطال گرایی و ... کسی چنین برداشت سطحی و ابتدایی از نظریه و قانون ندارد. فکر کنم نویسنده محترم بهتر بود یک بررسی اجمالی از جدیدترین برداشت ها و یافته ها در فلسفه علم و علم شناسی می نمود بعد چنین متن و کلیپی رو می ساخت. چنین نیست که قانون معطوف به آینده بوده و پیس بینی می کند و نظریه یا تئوری معطوف به گذشته و ریشه و علت ها را تبیین می کند. بر این رای چندین مناقشه جدی وارد است که البته مجال آن اینجا نیست... ولی اگر لازم بود می توان به بحث نشست. درود بر دوستان.
