About this video
In this program, Hassan Mohaddesi and Ali Qartasi examine the relationship between art and religion; two realms that have both played a significant role in meaning-making, education, identity formation, and the lived experience of humans throughout history.
The central focus of the conversation is the origins from which religion and art arise, what needs they fulfill in human life, and what functions they serve in the private and public spheres. The discussion also approaches the question of how, with the expansion of science, technology, and modern rationality, the place of religious and artistic narratives in understanding the world has changed.
The importance of this conversation lies in its examination of the relationship between religion and art not as a simple opposition, but in connection with identity, culture, consciousness, meaning, and the evolution of the contemporary human mind. This program is of interest to enthusiasts of the sociology of religion, the philosophy of art, culture, and the social studies of religion.
