What does it mean that no good deed is ever lost in existence?

Mostafa Malekian: No good or evil is ever lost in the world, but this does not mean that if you do good, you will see good, or if you do evil, you will certainly see evil. Individuals may do much good and live ethically, yet still have a painful life. The law of karma holds, but it does not hold between goodness and social desirables; rather, it holds between goodness and individual desirables. That is, living virtuously does not necessarily bring you more wealth, more power, more social fame, more status and position, or more popularity, but it does bring you individual desirables—for instance, it brings you more tranquility, hopefulness, and meaning, and you find more joy and pleasure.
