Alireza Azar is a contemporary Iranian poet, lyricist, and poetry reciter known among audiences of contemporary Persian poetry for his emotive poems and spoken-word performances. With collections such as Ataya, Four Drops of Blood, Fingerprint, and That Is Its Name, he has been active in contemporary Persian poetry.
Alireza Azar was born in Iran on 3 November 1979 and is a contemporary Persian poet and lyricist. He became interested in writing poetry during his teenage years and gradually expanded his literary activity. Wider public familiarity with his work developed in the late 2000s through the publication and performance of some of his songs and spoken-word pieces.
Azar became more widely known for writing the closing-title song for the television series Setayesh. He subsequently collaborated as a lyricist with singers including Reza Sadeghi, Amir Abbas Golab, and Amir Tajik. A significant feature of his work is the connection between poetry, performance, and the poet’s own voice; his recitations have played an important role in the audience’s engagement with his poems.
His published works include the poetry collections Ataya, Four Drops of Blood, Fingerprint, and That Is Its Name. His poetry prominently engages such themes as love, solitude, loss, personal experience, and reflections on the human condition.
Azar’s poetic style can be considered within the range of contemporary Persian poetry and free verse. At the same time, his work has drawn on a variety of poetic forms and traditions, from the ghazal and the masnavi to blank verse. He has also been active in holding poetry and songwriting workshops.
