George Edward Moore was a British philosopher and one of the founding figures of the analytic philosophical tradition in the early twentieth century. He is particularly known for his work in ethics, his defense of common sense, and his critique of idealism, while his book *Principia Ethica* exerted an important influence on twentieth-century moral philosophy.
