Zaharia Stancu was a Romanian poet, novelist, and journalist of the twentieth century, regarded as one of the important figures of Romanian literature. He is best known for the novel "Barefoot" (Desculț) and his poetry, in which he addressed themes such as poverty, human suffering, freedom, and the historical experiences of Romanian people.
