About this video
In this Sedanet conversation, Vahid Hallaj speaks with Hamed Safaeipour about modern design arguments. The design argument is one of the oldest arguments for proving the existence of God or the purposiveness of the universe, which has been revisited and reconstructed in the contemporary era with the findings of cosmology and modern physics.
In this discussion, Safaeipour explains the new versions of the design argument and shows how scientific data about the structure of the universe, the fine-tuning of physical constants, and the conditions for the emergence of life can be utilized within the framework of this argument. The discussion of the possibility of extracting an account of the universe's purposiveness from cosmology, the limitations of scientific reasoning, and the relationship between science and theology are among the main axes of the conversation.
This conversation is an opportunity for those interested in the philosophy of religion, cosmology, and the relationship between science and religion to become acquainted with the latest versions of the design argument and to better understand the place of scientific findings in theological discussions.
