About this video
We know Khayyam above all as the poet of enduring quatrains; a poet who expressed questions about life, death, time, and the human condition in the world with concise and thought-provoking language. But Khayyam is not merely a poet, and his philosophical thought also constitutes an important part of his intellectual legacy.
In this conversation, Khashayar Tayyar and Kaveh Behbahani examine the figure of Khayyam as a philosopher and poet and discuss the place of his thought and poetry within Iran's intellectual and literary tradition. This discussion is an opportunity to take a fresh look at Khayyam, beyond the common and purely poetic image we have of him.
The importance of this subject lies in the fact that Khayyam stands at the intersection of philosophy, poetry, and reflection on the fundamental questions of life; therefore, understanding the relationship between his philosophical thought and his poetry can contribute to a more precise understanding of Khayyam's intellectual legacy and his lasting influence on Iranian culture.
