About this video
In this program, Javad Heydari, in conversation with Mohammadreza Vaez, explores the meaning of life from Thomas Nagel's perspective. Nagel is one of the important contemporary philosophers who, in his works, has examined the problem of absurdity, the human being's detachment from their own life, and the view of human existence from the outside with an analytical and precise language.
This conversation is part of the 'Analytic Philosophy in Everyday Life' dossier and seeks to show that the question of the meaning of life is not merely an abstract or personal concern, but is linked to our way of living, rational judgment, the experience of absurdity, and our relationship with the world. Within this framework, Nagel's view provides an opportunity to examine the meaning of life without psychological simplifications or ready-made answers.
The significance of the program lies in bringing analytic philosophy closer to one of the most common and serious human questions: in what respect can our lives have meaning, and does awareness of the universe's boundlessness or human limitations threaten this meaning or make it clearer?
