Lecture by Dr. Gholamhossein Ebrahimi Dinani: 'The Self and the Other'

The lecture "The Self and the Other" by Dr. Gholamhossein Ebrahimi Dinani was held on April 17 of this year at the Faculty of Literature and Humanities, University of Tehran. This lecture, on the subject of "The Self and the Other"—which is also the title of Dr. Dinani's latest book, recently published—was held. The subject of this book revolves around the self, the referent of the pronoun "I," the possibility of knowing it, and its relationship with what is other than itself: The conscious human being not only interprets the world, but they themselves are also a kind of interpretation of the universe. Generally speaking, it can be said: every living being in the world is an interpretation of its surrounding environment, and by examining it, one can gain awareness of the nature and characteristics of that environment. "Appearance" always gives news of "Being," and "phenomenon" tells of the "noumenon." Attaining a being without awareness of existence is meaningless, although individuals may be heedless of the truth of existence. One who is immersed in a mental image and cannot become aware of the origin of its emergence, how can they speak of the truth of what is called the "self" and find a way into the realm of presence?! Most people are attached to their mental images, but they do not question the origin of their mental images! These are the very ones who speak of beings, but do not question "existence"!
