Mostafa Malekian calls on intellectuals to set aside narcissism and prejudice so they may realize they need one another’s ideas. In his view, without camp-building and the language of battlefronts, a lose-lose transaction can be turned into a win-win.

My solution is for intellectuals to abandon their narcissism—the attitude that truth resides with me and no one else. They must also relinquish prejudice toward other intellectuals, bias toward their own faction and intellectual camp, and dogmatism, and turn toward tolerance. All of these solutions are psychological and ethical, and no institution needs to be formed. If this narcissism disappears, then Malekian will know that he needs the views of Dr. Soroush, Dr. Soroush will know that he needs the views of Babak Ahmadi, Babak Ahmadi will know that he needs the views of Morad Farhadpour, and so on... My point is that we will all realize that we need one another.
