Rasoul Jafarian has republished an unpublished note by Morteza Motahhari about Shia jurists. Motahhari writes that the clergy accept the deputyship of the Hidden Imam only in financial and titular matters, and because the Imam's reappearance 'would shut down the gentlemen's shop,' they oppose it.

Some time ago, Rasul Jafarian posted on his personal Telegram channel one of the unpublished notes of the martyred Ayatollah Motahhari concerning Shia jurists, the photo and text of which follow:

Shia scholars and Shia jurists introduce themselves as the deputies of His Holiness Hujjat ibn al-Hasan (may God hasten his noble advent), but only in some matters, not in all matters. Any task that has benefit and from which money and status are derived, they accept deputyship for those tasks, such as collecting religious dues, guardianship over minors, the incapacitated, and the absent, issuing fatwas, and adjudication; and any task that merely requires toil and struggle, they say His Holiness himself should come and set those tasks right. Hence, the gentlemen take the budget for public welfare and have nothing to do with public reforms themselves; indeed, they have no faith in that work and hold contrary beliefs, and exactly like the people of [the Children of] Israel, they say: So go you and your Lord and fight; indeed, we are sitting right here. From this, one must understand why it is mentioned in the narrations that the jurists will issue a fatwa for the killing of Hujjat ibn al-Hasan (although the gentlemen interpret it away and say the intended meaning is the jurists of the Sunnis!!!). Of course, the matter has a natural cause; when someone appears who closes the gentlemen's shops, they will have nothing to do with him, but rather they will be one hundred percent against him. Today, they exploit his name, his birthday celebration, and his status, and this exploitation is possible only if he himself is not present; if he himself were present, this exploitation would not be feasible.
