Life and Thought
Hossein Abadian (born January 22, 1962, in Lar) is a professor of history at Imam Khomeini International University and a prominent researcher of contemporary Iranian history. He approaches history with a philosophical, rational, and phenomenological perspective, utilizing jurisprudential and usuli concepts to explain contemporary Iranian intellectual movements. Abadian is the author of twelve books and over fifty research articles in Persian, English, and Arabic.
Hossein Abadian was born on January 22, 1962, in Lar. He completed his education from bachelor's to doctorate at Shahid Beheshti University. The subject of his master's thesis was "The Theoretical Foundations of Constitutionalism and Sharia-Based Constitutionalism," which for the first time in the historiography of the Constitutional period used jurisprudential and usuli concepts and discussions to explain this movement. A part of this thesis was published under the title "The Theoretical Foundations of Constitutional and Sharia-Based Government."
Abadian currently teaches with the academic rank of professor in the History Department of Imam Khomeini International University. He is one of the few researchers of contemporary Iranian history who has a philosophical and rational approach to history and uses the phenomenological method to understand and explain the events of contemporary Iranian history. He has also utilized jurisprudential and usuli concepts in analyzing contemporary intellectual movements, an approach that is unique in its kind.
Among his most important works are "The Historical Destiny of Thought in Qajar Iran," "The Political History of Contemporary Iran: The Grounds for the Establishment of the Pahlavi Monarchy," "Old Concepts and New Thought: A Theoretical Introduction to the Iranian Constitution," "The Crisis of Consciousness and the Formation of Intellectualism in Iran," "Iran: From the Fall of the Constitution to the Coup of February 22," "The Crisis of Constitutionalism in Iran," "The Last Two Decades of the Pahlavi Regime," "An Iranian Narrative of the Russo-Persian Wars," "A Political Biography of Dr. Mozafar Baghai," "Religious Thought and the Anti-Régie Movement in Iran," and "Rasulzadeh, the Democrat Party, and Contemporary Developments in Iran."
