William David Ross was a British moral philosopher and one of the most important figures in twentieth-century ethics and a defender of pluralistic deontology. He argued that there are several fundamental moral duties and rejected reducing morality to a single principle such as maximizing good. His book The Right and the Good is considered one of the major works in moral philosophy.
