Why Nations Fail? A Conversation with Mohammad Fazeli
This conversation explores Mohammad Fazeli's reading of the book "Why Nations Fail?" and its relevance to the question of Iran. The discussion centers on the role of institutions, politics, and the historical paths of development or failure of nations.
About this video
In this video, Mohammad Fazeli discusses Iran from the perspective of Daron Acemoglu and James Robinson; two authors who, in their book "Why Nations Fail?", have highlighted the role of political and economic institutions in the success or failure of societies. This program is a continuation of the tenth episode of the "Narrative of Iran" series and is held within the framework of the Sustainable Iran dialogues.
The main focus of the discussion is why some societies achieve development, stability, and prosperity while others become trapped in stagnation, inefficiency, and institutional failure. From this perspective, Iran's problem is not limited to natural resources, public culture, or short-term decisions, but must be examined in relation to the quality of institutions, the distribution of power, law, participation, and governance capacity.
The significance of this conversation lies in linking the concepts of the book "Why Nations Fail?" to the question of Iran. This program is suitable for audiences interested in development, political economy, institutions, governance, Iranian history, and the future of Iranian society.
