A Message from Mohammad-Ali Movahed on Father's Day and the Coronavirus Crisis

To the friends whose company I am deprived of on such a day

Friends!

A terrifying war has broken out against an enemy you cannot see, but who sees you. On a front as vast and expansive as the world and all its inhabitants. From East to West. Everyone, men and women, old and young, is engaged in this war.

Doctors and nurses are, of course, the heroes of the front lines, exalted by the badge of courage, hearing cheers of "Bravo!" and "Well done!" from every direction, and they are undoubtedly deserving of every kind of gratitude and praise. Yet, whatever the case, they are clad in battle dress, equipped with the tools and instruments of warfare, and have received the necessary training.

My heart is heavy with sorrow for that vast multitude of people who depend on daily work for their livelihood. Wage-earning laborers, at various levels, behind office desks, behind the wheels of vehicles, at the machines in workshops; laborers who must grapple all day long with dirt, mud, stone, and cement so that at dusk they can bring a meager sustenance home to their wives and children. I am certain that the cessation of activities will tighten the noose around them. Let us think of them. Let us not forget the honorable and respectable men and women who have fallen into hardship.

These are bad times. But do not doubt, not even for a moment, that in the war between death and life, life will triumph. Let not the youth become impatient or restless. It seems to me the world is pregnant with momentous events. Today, while we are here, let us act upon our conscientious duty and not lose hope. A brighter tomorrow is on its way. What does it matter if I do not see it; others will.
