Blumenberg and the Dominant Truth

Truth has perhaps been our greatest “problem” as human beings, and a cursory glance at the history of thought reveals that, as if it were the “single goal,” all actions undertaken in the history of reason have been an effort to realize the ideal of “truth-seeking.” Everyone has pursued this path in their own language and manner. Yet a question arises at first glance: has this ideal brought any outcome for humanity? In short, where have we arrived with the path we have traveled so far? In the lecture “Blumenberg and the Dominant Truth: When Metaphor Becomes Humanity’s Refuge,” we have attempted, with the aid of the views of the German philosopher and historian of thought, Hans Blumenberg, to confront this question and take our own measure. In this context, the method and theory of the “history of conceptual change” as well as “philosophical metaphorology” will be discussed, which, besides being novel, will aid in understanding Blumenberg’s perspective. The truth with which we have grappled every day, at all times—alas, what a state it has brought us to! With Blumenberg, we may not find a cure, but we will find a therapeutic insight for the future!
