Introducing Ettela'at-e Hekmat va Ma'refat No. 141: A Dossier on Virtue Ethics 4

The dossier in this issue of the journal consists of 7 articles, and other pieces have also been published in the Literature and Art, Thought and Opinion, Books, and Reports sections.

Mehdi Akhavan, in a portion of the editor's note for issue 141, writes: "Virtue ethics in this day and age vigorously strives both to resolve the lingering problems and gaps left by its rivals and to answer the objections of rivals and others to the virtue-oriented position. Following the two previous dossiers (issues 128 and 137 of this magazine), this dossier attempts, as far as possible, to raise some of the debates on this subject.

The first article of this issue's dossier is a Harvard University interview with Philippa Foot, translated into Persian by Kasra Hatampouri.

In the second article, Shirin Taleghani, in a piece titled "Virtue Ethics: What and Why?" describes the most important components of virtue ethics.

The third article, titled "A Remedy for the Schizophrenia of Modern Ethical Theories" by Michael Stocker, is a supplement to the debate he himself raised in the article "The Schizophrenia of Modern Ethical Theories," and it has been translated into Persian by Neda Zaman Fashami.

The fourth article in this collection, titled "Is Virtue Ethics the Monopoly of Aristotle (and Aristotelians)?" by Mohammad Hossein Mirmohammadi, describes the reasons for virtue ethics being tied to Aristotelian ethics and the rival approaches.

In the fifth article, titled "Applying Virtue Ethics," Rosalind Hursthouse addresses Philippa Foot's article on euthanasia and seeks to complete Foot's project. This article has been translated into Persian by Neda Fasham Zamani.

The sixth piece, which is a report on the book "Virtue Epistemology" by Zahra Khazaei, has been written by Azamossadat Hosseini Hosseinabad.

The seventh and final article of this dossier is a report on the book A Small Treatise on the Great Virtues, written by Elham Yousefi.

This month's Literature and Art section contains an interview with Ali-Mohammad Eskandari-Joo titled "Hafez and Nietzsche: Two Critics of Culture and Two Goldsmiths of Language," conducted by Manouchehr Dinparast.

In the Thought and Opinion section, we also review two articles: first, "Metaethics and its Role in Environmental Philosophy" by John O'Neill, translated by Seyyed Mohsen Eslami; and the second article, titled "Existence as Manifestation" by Charles Guignon, translated by Enshallah Rahmati.

The final two sections of this monthly are the Books and Reports sections. The Books section features "Sindbad-Namehs" (Part Two) by Seyyed Masoud Razavi; and a review and introduction of a book and an interview by Monireh Panjtani with Ahmad Mohammadpour about the book "Essays on the Politics of Method"...

The one hundred and forty-first issue of Ettela'at-e Hekmat va Ma'refat, dated January 2018, titled "Virtue Ethics 4," under the editorship and directorship of Enshallah Rahmati, was made available to enthusiasts for the price of 5,000 Tomans.
