Mohammad Fazeli's Lecture: 'The Causes of the Gasoline Protests and How the Country Reached Its Current State'
Mohammad Fazeli attributes the gasoline protests and the country's current situation to the government's lack of neutrality in the political sphere. By examining good governance indicators in Iran and five other countries, he shows that none of the indicators have improved over the past 22 years.
Mohammad Fazeli: Today, the nineteenth of Azar, one thousand three hundred and ninety-eight, at the Institute for Social Research of the University of Tehran, I explained the causes of the gasoline protests and how the country reached its current state. The core of my speech was this: the government is not neutral in the political arena, and this very fact has led to the current situation.
Changes in Good Governance Indicators in Iran and Five Countries
I have charted the changes in good governance indicators for Iran, Turkey, Chile, Georgia, India, and Qatar between 1996 and 2018 in these slides.
The statistics are extracted from the World Bank website.
All six indicators have not improved over the 22-year period.
All six indicators fall within the range of zero to negative 2.
The growth trajectory of all indicators for Georgia (purple) and the favorable status of most indicators for Qatar (orange) are noteworthy.
This state of governance indicators, especially the status of accountability and regulatory quality, speaks volumes.

حکومت سازمان عرصه عمومی یا عرصه سیاست است ، کانون سازمانی سیاست است . همه جا چنین است ؛ و این چیزی را توضیح نمی دهد ! وقتی نمی توانند بر پایه جایگاه تولید ـ توزیع ـ مصرف بنزین در بافتار اقتصادی و وضع زیست جمعی ، اعتراض به افزایش قیمت آن را توجیه کنند ؛ به چیزهای دیگر می آویزند : دهن کجی است ، مردم منتظر جرقه بودند ... بخش قابل توجهی از نفت استخراجی به تولید بنزین اختصاص می یابد و این بنزین با سوبسید توزیع توزیع می شود و قشر متوسط به بالای متراکم در شهرهای خدماتی ـ مصرفی آن را به ترافیک سنگین ، هوای آلوده و تن و روان بیمار تبدیل می کند . معتادان به این روند نمی توانند در سبک زیست خود تغییری ایجاد کنند ، توقع استمرار این وضع را دارند و اراده معطوف به بهبود را تاب نمی آورند . این که اپوزیسیون می کوشد از این باتلاق گوهر خود را صید کند ، حماقتی است که رندی جلوه می کند ، استیصال و درماندگی ای است که توانمندی و رویش وانمود می شود ...
