The eighth anniversary commemoration of the passing of Ezzatollah and Haleh Sahabi was held on 30 May 2019 at the Towhid Center. The audio file of Mohsen Renani's speech at this ceremony, titled “The Cause of Modernists' Failure in Development Creation in Iran: From Amir Kabir to Mousavi,” was delivered.

Reza Shah, Amir Kabir, Mosaddegh, Shariati, Shamloo, Soroush, Mousavi, Khatami, and Ayatollah Khomeini were symbolic capitals, but they were not development-seekers.

Soroush was a revolutionary modernist intellectual; Mir-Hossein was a revolutionary modernist; Khatami was a conservative modernist; Mir-Hossein and Soroush, because they were not dialogical, and Khatami, because he was not willing to bear costs, did not create development-generating transformations.

Development-seeking modernists have specific characteristics; they are tolerant, patient, rational, and risk-taking, possessing the capacity for forgiveness (readiness to bear costs) and the skill of dialogue...
