Abbas Edalat is an Iranian professor of mathematics and computer science at Imperial College London. In the context of Iran's backwardness and decline, he has drawn attention to the impact of the Mongol invasion and what he calls the Catastrophe Hypothesis. Here we present his lecture on this subject, delivered at the Institute for Humanities and Cultural Studies, along with an article by him on the same topic published in Bukhara Magazine.
