Rashad Khalifa's research, using computer technology, reveals the Quran's intricate numerical order based on the number 19. This miraculous system demonstrates that the Quran is not a product of human thought and has been preserved from alteration throughout the centuries.
Over the past fourteen centuries, countless literary works—books, articles, and research reports—have been written about the miraculous quality of the Quran. These writings have expounded upon the eloquence of its expression, its literary excellence, its scientific miracles, its style, and even the captivating beauty of its recitation. Nevertheless, research into the inimitability of the Quran has not been conducted impartially, owing to human emotions, and pens have been wielded for or against it depending on the author's beliefs. Since previous studies and research were carried out by human beings, the inclinations, opinions, and contradictions of the authors are inevitably evident in them. These writings have failed to convince non-Muslims that the Quran is a divine book, and the authors' arguments have not been effective upon them. The miracle presented in this research treatise is based on indisputable, unequivocal, and unalterable principles, in that computer technology, by discovering the miraculous numerical system of the Quran, demonstrates that the Holy Quran cannot possibly be the product of human thought. It was the will of Almighty God that this intricate numerical order of the Quran not remain hidden, so that it might be affirmed that the Quran's unseen source is from God Almighty, and that it has been preserved by His essence throughout the ages, safe from the harm of alteration, addition, or subtraction. The miraculous codes of the Quran are exclusively as follows: 1. The first verse of the Quran, "Bismillah al-Rahman al-Rahim" (In the name of God, Most Gracious, Most Merciful), consists of 19 Arabic letters. 2. The Holy Quran consists of 114 surahs, and this number is divisible by 19 (6 × 19). 3. The first surah to be revealed was Surah Al-'Alaq (No. 96), which is the 19th surah from the end of the Quran. 4. Surah Al-'Alaq has 19 verses. 5. Surah Al-'Alaq has 285 letters (15 × 19). 6. The first time Gabriel, the Trustworthy, descended with the Quran, he brought the first 5 verses of Surah Al-'Alaq, which contain 19 words. 7. These 19 words have 76 letters (4 × 19), which is equal to the number of letters in Bismillah al-Rahman al-Rahim. 8. The second time Gabriel, the Trustworthy, descended, he brought the first 9 verses of Surah Al-Qalam (No. 68), which contain 38 words (2 × 19). 9. The third time Gabriel, the Trustworthy, descended, he brought the first 10 verses of Surah Al-Muzzammil (No. 73), which contain 57 words (3 × 19). 10. The fourth time Gabriel, the Trustworthy, descended, he brought 30 verses of Surah Al-Muddaththir (No. 74), the last verse of which is "Over it are nineteen [angels]" (verse 30). 11. The fifth time Gabriel descended, the first complete surah was revealed; he brought "Fatihat al-Kitab" (The Opening of the Book), which begins with the Quran's first statement, Bismillah al-Rahman al-Rahim (19 letters). This 19-letter statement was revealed immediately after the revelation of the verse "Over it are nineteen [angels]." These stages bear witness to a connection, free from doubt, between verse 30 of Surah Al-Muddaththir (the number 19) and the Quran's first statement, "Bismillah al-Rahman al-Rahim" (the number 19), with the miraculous numerical system that is founded upon the number 19. 12. The Creator, the Possessor of Majesty and Grandeur, teaches us with verse 31 of Surah Al-Muddaththir why He chose the number 19. He states the following five reasons: a) To disturb the disbelievers. b) To reassure the righteous among the Jews and Christians that the Quran is divine. c) To strengthen the faith of the believers. d) To remove any trace of doubt and uncertainty from the hearts of Muslims and the righteous among Jews and Christians. e) To expose the hypocrites and disbelievers who do not accept the Quran's numerical system. 13. The Creator teaches us that this numerical order of the Quran is a reminder to all the worlds (verse 31 of Surah Al-Muddaththir) and one of the great miracles of the Quran (verse 35). 14. Each word of the Quran's opening phrase, Bismillah al-Rahman al-Rahim, is repeated throughout the entire Quran in a manner divisible by the number 19. Specifically, the word "Ism" (name) appears 19 times, the word "Allah" (God) 2698 times (142 × 19), the word "al-Rahman" (Most Gracious) 57 times (3 × 19), and the word "al-Rahim" (Most Merciful) 114 times (6 × 19). 15. The Quran has 114 surahs, each of which begins with the opening verse, Bismillah al-Rahman al-Rahim, except for Surah Al-Tawbah (No. 9), which lacks the usual opening verse. Therefore, the verse Bismillah al-Rahman al-Rahim is repeated 113 times at the beginning of the surahs. Since this number is not divisible by 19, and the numerical system of the divine Quran, created by the Lord, must be perfect, the 114th Bismillah is found in Surah Al-Naml, which has two Bismillahs (the opening verse and verse 30). Thus, the Holy Quran has 114 Bismillahs. 16. As mentioned above, Surah Al-Tawbah lacks the opening verse, Bismillah. If we start from Surah Al-Tawbah and consider it surah number one, Surah Yunus as surah number two, and proceed in this manner, we observe that Surah Al-Naml is the 19th surah (surah 27), which contains the complementary Bismillah.
From this order we conclude that the Quran we have today is identical to the Quran of the Prophet's time in terms of the sequence of its surahs. 17. The number of words between the two Basmalah verses of Surah Al-Naml is 342 (18×19). 18. The Holy Quran contains countless numbers. For example, "We summoned Moses for forty nights," "We created the seven heavens." The count of these numbers in the entire Quran is 385 (15×19). 19. If we add together the 285 numbers mentioned above, the sum will be 174,591 (9189×19). 20. Even if we remove the repeated numbers from the above figure, the sum will be 162,146 (8534×19). 21. A special characteristic of the Holy Quran is that 29 surahs begin with cryptic letters that have no apparent meaning. These symbols are not seen in any other book or anywhere else. These letters at the beginning of the Quranic surahs are an important part of the miraculous numerical design based on the number 19. The first indication of this connection is that 29 surahs of the Quran begin with these symbols. The number of alphabet letters in these codes is 14, and the number of the codes themselves is also 14. If we add the number of surahs (29), the alphabet letters (14), and the number of codes (14), the sum will be 57 (3×19). 22. God Almighty teaches us that in eight surahs—surahs numbered (10, 12, 13, 15, 26, 27, 28, 31)—the two verses that begin with these codes contain and carry the miracle of the Quran. It should be noted that the Quran uses the word "Ayah" to mean miracle. The word Ayah must have multiple meanings, one of which is miracle, and it should also be known that the word "miracle" itself is not used anywhere in the Quran. Thus, the Quran is suitable for the interpretation of various generations of humanity. For example, previous generations (before the discovery of the significance of the Quran's cryptic letters) considered the word Ayah in these eight surahs to mean a half-verse. But later generations, who became aware of the importance of these codes, interpreted Ayah to mean miracle. The use of polysemous words suitable for all generations of humanity across different times is itself one of the miracles of the Quran. 23. Surah Qaf, which begins with the letter Qaf (number 50), contains 57 (3×19) Qaf letters. 24. Another surah in the Quran has the letter Qaf in its cryptic symbol (Surah Al-Shura, number 42). If you count the Qaf letters in this surah, you will observe that the letter Qaf is repeated 57 (3×19) times. 25. Thus, you find that the two aforementioned Quranic surahs (numbers 50 and 42) contain the same number (57, 57) of the letter Qaf, and the sum of the two equals the number of surahs in the Quran (114). Since Surah Qaf begins thus: "Qaf, by the Glorious Quran," the letter Qaf is imagined to mean the Glorious Quran, and the mentioned 114 Qafs testify to the 114 surahs of the Quran. This clear and eloquent numerical calculation proves that the 114 surahs of the Quran constitute the entire Quran and are nothing but the Quran. 26. Computer statistics show that only these two surahs that begin with the letter Qaf have a specific number of Qafs (57 occurrences), as if God Almighty wishes to imply and allude that He alone is aware of the number of alphabet letters in the surahs of the Quran. 27. An example in verse 13 of Surah Qaf proves that every word, indeed every letter, in the Holy Quran is placed by divine command and according to a specific numerical system beyond human power. This verse states: "'Aad, Pharaoh, and the brethren of Lot." Throughout the Quran, the people who rejected Lot are called "Qawm." The reader immediately realizes what would happen if the word "Qawm" were used instead of "Ikhwan" in Surah Qaf. In that case, mentioning the word "Qawm" instead of "Ikhwan" would cause the letter "Qaf" to be repeated 58 times in this surah, and the number 58 is not divisible by 19, and thus it would not match the count of 57 "Qafs" in Surah Al-Shura, and their sum would not equal the number of surahs in the Quran. This means that by substituting one word for another, the order of the Quran is disrupted. 28. The only surah that begins with the letter "Nun" is Surah Al-Qalam (number 68). This surah has 133 "Nuns," which is divisible by 19 (7×19). 29. The three surahs Al-A'raf (number 7), Maryam (number 19), and Sad (number 38), which begin with the letters (Sad), collectively contain 152 "Sad" letters (8×19). 30. In Surah Taha (number 20), the total count of the letters "Ta" and "Ha" is 344 (18×19). 31. In Surah "Ya Sin," the count of the letters "Ya" and "Sin" is 285 (15×19). 32. In the seven surahs 40 to 46, which begin with the code "Ha Mim," the repetition of the letters is 2,166 (14×19). Therefore, all the abbreviated letters at the beginning of the Quranic surahs, without exception, participate in the miraculous numerical method of the Quran. It should be noted that this numerical method of the Quran is, in some cases, simple and understandable to ordinary people. He said: I noticed differences of about one ten-thousandth while examining Surah Maryam and Surah al-Zumar; the percentage ratio of the total letters (K, H, Y, ‘A, S) in both surahs is equal, whereas it should be higher in Surah Maryam than in any other surah because these disjointed letters appear only at the beginning of Surah Maryam. But when I extended the calculations for the ratio of the letters in the two surahs beyond the third decimal place, it became clear that the ratio of the total of these letters in Surah Maryam is one ten-thousandth (0.0001) higher than in Surah al-Zumar. These minute differences are truly astonishing and bewildering..
