The Sexual Wisdom Collection

The daily news of sexual assault, child abuse, divorce statistics, domestic violence, back-alley abortions, runaway girls, the spread of cohabitation, Iranian men traveling to Thailand, the intensifying transmission of AIDS through sexual contact, statistics on surgeries, consumption of drugs related to sexual intercourse, honor killings, and so on, indicates that conditions in the domain of sexual life are far from favorable.

I have worked for seven years examining the sexual life of Iranian society, and today I have reached the conclusion that we must arrive at a shared understanding of society's sexual life. For social issues, as they are explained, reveal their own solutions. Policy-making and intervention in sexual life without the participation of the wise, across all orientations, in reaching a shared understanding of this phenomenon, is not right.

For a proper description of sexual life and the constellation of issues and challenges ahead (like other social aspects), we need dialogue and to arrive at a process of collective thinking in Iranian society, so that we can free ourselves from the policies of administrators who feel no need for dialogue.

Relying on my own personal capacity and without any governmental support, last year I produced the educational series "A Simple Suggestion" — about sex education for parents for the sexual development of children. After its production, it was supported by the public and has so far been viewed two million times on the Aparat website. Link: www.aparat.com/pishnahad_sade

I have also produced a new series called "Sexual Wisdom," which seeks to understand the issue of sexual life in Iran. This series was also made without governmental assistance. And for this, I thank God that this series, too, opens up a new space under the shadow of the heavy silence of official media regarding sexual life.

A considerable number of professors, pioneers, social workers, and researchers speak in this series, with the perspective of years of research, about the domain of our society's sexual life. In Sexual Wisdom, we strive to illuminate the different sides and various angles affecting the conditions of society's sexual life. That is, with each presentation, we place one puzzle piece next to another so that gradually, we can obtain a broad picture and a shared understanding of this domain. Then we will know what the problem of our society is in the domain of sexual life, and what effects factors such as intellectual and cultural tradition, the model of economic development, the function of support institutions, processes within the patriarchal state, the performance of jurisprudence and ethics, etc., have on our sexual life, and why various prescriptions in this domain have only aggravated the situation, and for what reason are we witnessing the growth of various predicaments and problems in this domain?
