Life and Thought
Abbas Kiarostami (1940–2016) was an Iranian filmmaker, screenwriter, photographer, poet, graphic designer, and visual artist. He is considered one of the most important figures in Iranian cinema and world art cinema, achieving international renown with films such as Where Is the Friend's House?, Close-Up, Life, and Nothing More..., Through the Olive Trees, and Taste of Cherry. Kiarostami received the Palme d'Or at the 1997 Cannes Film Festival for Taste of Cherry.
