Donald Johanson is an American paleoanthropologist best known for discovering "Lucy," a fossil skeleton of Australopithecus afarensis found in Hadar, Ethiopia, in 1974 — one of the most important finds in the history of human-origins research. He founded the Institute of Human Origins, and his work reshaped scientific understanding of human evolutionary history.
