Abu al-Qasim Ferdowsi, the great Iranian poet and author of the Shahnameh, is one of the foundational figures of Persian language and culture. By rendering Iran’s national and mythological traditions in verse, he created a work that is both a literary and linguistic monument and one of the most important sources of Iranians’ historical and cultural identity.
