Hassan Mohaddesi Gilvaei, born in 1966 in Rasht, is an Iranian sociologist and assistant professor at the Central Tehran Branch of Islamic Azad University. His research areas include the sociology of religion, critical theology, and a re-reading of the thought of Ali Shariati.
Hassan Mohaddesi Gilvaei, born in 1966 in Rasht, is an Iranian sociologist and assistant professor at the Central Tehran Branch of Islamic Azad University. He has conducted research in the fields of sociology of religion, sociology of knowledge, and the sociology of religious intellectualism, and for a time served as the director of the Sociology of Religion Group at the Iranian Sociological Association.
A significant portion of Mohaddesi's work is devoted to religion in contemporary Iranian society, the relationship between religion and power, social theology, the critique of historical religion, and a re-reading of the thought of Ali Shariati. He views Shariati not merely as a political or ideological figure, but as a social theorist whose thought can be utilized for understanding Iranian society.
Mohaddesi's main focus is on the sociology of religion, religion and social order, critical theology, religion and democracy, religion in contemporary Iran, happiness and religion, the sociology of knowledge, and a critical re-reading of Shariati. In his works, he examines religion from a sociological perspective, paying attention to the relationship between religious experience, the institution of religion, political power, and everyday life.
